I'm glad to have found you guys, and I would like to thank you for accepting my request to join.
I am an older Marine Corps veteran, haven't purchased a firearm in over 15 years, and I'm sure things have changed since I last went through the process of arming myself as a civilian. Not just that, but the last time I purchased a firearm was in a different state.
My disabilities may or may not also be a factor, and I need to sort all this out before I start shopping for what I need, and I'm having trouble getting straight answers from the myriad of websites out there. I figured to just cut through the BS, and come straight to the people that would know what was what and ask you some questions.
I am 50, paralyzed, and have a few other service connected disabilities. Never been convicted of a crime, or had my driver's license suspended or revoked... I still have a valid Colorado DL without any restrictions, even with being a paraplegic and having to drive with hand controls.
Need to know what is required to purchase a firearm in Colorado. What restrictions or limitations exist both on the State and Federal levels. What would keep someone from legally being able to buy a firearm in this state, and how much paperwork do you have to go through each time? How long is the waiting period now, and what weapons are illegal to buy, or are there work arounds? Are there any medications which might be a problem to be on, or any diagnoses which could get in the way... Any issues that veterans face regularly in buying or owning firearms that I should be aware of? And if there are things you can share that I haven't thought to ask about, please do!
Thank you and Semper Fi
